U.S. Ag secretary talks food insecurity challenges

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack spoke about global food insecurity and hunger on Thursday at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. During his speech, Vilsack highlighted a recently released USDA report that found roughly 14 percent of Americans are food insecure.

New FDA nutrition labels a long time coming

The federal government is overhauling nutrition labels in light of public health research that reveals what is lacking in the country’s diet. The changes, spearheaded by the Obama administration and proposed by the Food and Drug Administration in February, are aimed at making healthy eating easier for the consumer.
