Vernon Hugh Bowman, an Indiana farmer, has gone all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court to challenge the reach of Monsanto Co.’s patent to protect its Roundup Ready seeds, STL Beacon reported in a story leading up to Bowman’s appearance Feb. 19 at the Supreme Court.

Bowman’s challenge to patent rights could chill a broad range of technological innovation, Monsanto and the research universities and corporations that support the company’s position fear.
