How important is an understanding of the world in business? Some feel having global experiences is important as related to the job market, and more and more schools are integrating these concepts.
Maria Cochran, Des Moines Area Community College study abroad coordinator, said with a global economy most companies have some kind of international outlet or business and employees need to be able to communicate with employees and consumers across the globe.
“So, in that mode, our students will be communicating with people from other countries. It is important to know what these people are like. They are not extraterrestrials. They are people just like us and you can do business with them,” Cochran said.
