Itโ€™s been five years since the Iowa Center for Public Affairs Journalism started producing in-depth news reportingโ€ฆthis week, weโ€™ll give you an update on some of the stories IowaWatch has covered, and weโ€™ll take a look ahead at what weโ€™ll all be talking about in the future.

โ€œAt the time, the newspaper industry was doing less and less investigative journalism, so there was obviously a gap that needed to be filled there,โ€ said Steve Berry, co-founder of IowaWatch and University of Iowa journalism professor, of the inspiration for creating IowaWatch. โ€œAnd the second thing was strictly my role as an educator and teaching my students in an investigative journalism class, I discovered that there was a lot of good reporting coming out of my classes and there was really no reliable way to get their work published.โ€

โ€œFive years in, I would say IowaWatch has exceeded my expectations,โ€ Berry said.
