AARP Iowa and IowaWatch.org are teaming up to host two luncheon panel discussions, Navigating the Workplace at 50, in Des Moines on Tuesday, Nov. 17, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Grandview University Student Center, 1200 Grandview Ave.; and in Cedar Rapids on Thursday, Nov. 19, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Hotel at Kirkwood Center.
The interactive programs are designed to provide participants with tips and tools for career decision-making. They will include a moderated panel of employment experts addressing Iowa market trends and resources available to connect older adults to jobs or training programs.
The panels will be moderated by Lyle Muller, executive director-editor of the nonprofit, nonpartisan Iowa Center for Public Affairs Journalism โ www.IowaWatch.org and the IowaWatch Connection radio program.
Panelists in will be career counselor Lin Phillips; Hy-Vee Senior Vice President Shelia Laing; University of Iowa College of Public Health Professor Brian Kaskie; career coach and consultant Kathleen Watson and an Iowa Workforce Development representative.
Panelists in Cedar Rapids will be Iowa Workforce Development employment specialist Carlos Vega, Iowa Department on Aging Employment Specialist Rosemary Thierer, Hy-Vee Human Resources professional Tonia Petterson, Phillips, Kaskie and Watson.
The events are free and open to AARP members and the public. They will include lunch and resource materials.
