Student debt in this country is now more than one-point-two trillion dollars — that’s more than Americans hold in credit card debt or car loans. And the amount of per-student debt has nearly doubled from just a decade ago.
“Right out of college and knowing that you have to pay back so much money, I think that’s really scary,” said Madeline Meyer, a Drake University senior. “It’s almost to the point where you’re always just trying to keep your head above water. It’s a terrible thing to have to face.”
