Iowa serves an important purpose in the presidential selection process โ€” weeding out candidates who donโ€™t have a chance of winning, Cary Covington, a University of Iowa associate professor of political science, said.

โ€œItโ€™s not as sexy of a role as being the one who does the choosing but its an important first step,โ€ he said.

Itโ€™s been a month since Iowans caucused. How do Iowaโ€™s results look now that more than a quarter of the country has indicated its presidential preference?
