It won’t count for the Knight News Match but your donation to IowaWatch always helps us produce strong investigative and collaborate journalism while training student journalists to do this work at a high, ethical level.

Support IowaWatch’s non-profit journalism and training efforts.

Thank you for participating with your gifts to IowaWatch this past month through the Knight News Match. In all, 62 of you donated $15,030 and the Knight Foundation has matched $9,530 of that through the Knight Foundation Donor Advised Fund at The Miami Foundation. Two of you donated twice. [EDITOR’S NOTE: This part of the story was updated on March 1, 2017, to show the final result of the fund drive.]

I cannot express enough my thanks for your support of the non-profit, non-partisan investigative and community affairs reporting we do while training student journalists to do this work at a high, ethical level. This mission is important to us in this changing world and we’re glad it is important to you, too.

Your donation will support our day-to-day operations. In the coming months we are working on two journalism projects that will train college students to do reporting that affects society but also two projects with high school journalism students. Watch for their stories in spring. Moreover, we are partners with a University of Northern Iowa journalism program called Science in the Media that will teach young journalists to seek facts when reporting about science. We are working, as well, with Iowa Public Radio on a couple of projects and others with other media partners.

You have made this happen. We, as an organization are grateful to you and I, personally, am humbled by your support.

We will update you next week on our final figures. We were close to our $10,000 goal and, who knows, perhaps we hit it with late mailings. In the meantime, keep reading our stories and share them with others so that they know the great work our reporters are doing.

And pat yourselves on the back for a job well done for answering our call to ensure the future of independent, nonprofit journalism.
