Iowa’s legislators get pulled in many directions by those who want to see their favorite policies put into law.

While these legislators receive plenty of phone calls and e-mails they also are invited to several receptions.

Steve Dust, president and chief executive office of the Greater Cedar Valley Alliance and Chamber, said his group hosts receptions like one on Feb. 21 to promote its agenda and to maintain relationships with legislators. His group represents the Waterloo-Cedar Falls area.

Rep. Ashley Hinson, R-Marion, said she goes to six to 15 receptions each week.

“I think this is a great way to make those connections and show people that you care about your connections as well,” she said. “I’m a first-term legislator so it’s important or me to try to make as many connections as I can.”
